Prophet Isa (Jesus, Peace Be Upon Him): His Life and Role in the End Times According to Islam

In Islam, Prophet Isa (AS) is one of Allah’s chosen messengers and was given the Injil (Gospel). Known as the “Messiah” in Christianity, Prophet Isa holds a sacred status in Islam as well. The Qur’an and the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) describe his birth, miracles, ascension to the heavens, and his return in the End Times in great detail.

The Birth and Life of Prophet Isa (AS)

Prophet Isa (AS) was born miraculously without a father. Allah (SWT) describes this event in the Qur’an:

“Mary said, ‘How can I have a child when no man has touched me, nor have I been unchaste?’ The angel replied, ‘It will be so! Your Lord says: This is easy for Me. We will make him a sign for the people and a mercy from Us. This is already decreed.’”
(Surah Maryam 19:20-21)

From the moment of his birth, Prophet Isa (AS) declared his prophethood by speaking from the cradle:

“I am indeed a servant of Allah. He has given me the Book and made me a prophet.”
(Surah Maryam 19:30)

The Miracles of Prophet Isa (AS)

By Allah’s permission, Prophet Isa (AS) was given many miracles, including:
        1.      Breathing life into a bird made of clay
“I create for you from clay the shape of a bird, then I blow into it, and it becomes a living bird by Allah’s will.”
(Surah Aal-e-Imran 3:49)
        2.      Healing the blind and those with leprosy
        3.      Bringing the dead back to life by Allah’s command
        4.      Telling people what they had stored in their homes

The Ascension of Prophet Isa (AS) to Heaven

According to the Qur’an, Prophet Isa (AS) was saved from the Jewish plot to kill him and was raised to the heavens by Allah (SWT):

“They did not kill him, nor did they crucify him, but it was made to appear so to them… Rather, Allah raised him up to Himself. And Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.”
(Surah An-Nisa 4:157-158)

The Qur’an and hadiths confirm that Prophet Isa (AS) did not die and will return to Earth before the Day of Judgment.

The Return of Prophet Isa (AS) in the End Times

Prophet Isa (AS) will return in the End Times to fulfill an important mission. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) foretold his second coming:

“The son of Mary will descend among you as a just ruler. He will break the cross, kill the swine, and abolish the jizya (tax on non-Muslims).”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith No: 3448)

During his second coming, Prophet Isa (AS) will play a crucial role in world events:

1. The Defeat of the Dajjal (Antichrist)

Prophet Isa (AS) will kill the Dajjal at Ludd Gate, near Jerusalem. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:

“While the Dajjal is fighting the Muslims, Isa ibn Maryam will descend at dawn, and the leader of the Muslims will invite him to lead the prayer. Isa (AS) will say: ‘No, your leader should lead you.’ Then, Isa (AS) will search for the Dajjal and kill him at Ludd Gate.”
(Sahih Muslim, Hadith No: 2937)

2. Establishing Peace and Justice

Prophet Isa (AS) will bring justice and peace to the world. Oppression will end, and people will embrace Islam. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:

“During Isa’s time, wolves and sheep will live together, and snakes will not harm children.”
(Musnad Ahmad, 2/406)

3. The Victory of Islam as the True Religion

Prophet Isa (AS) will guide people toward the worship of Allah alone. False beliefs and corrupted religions will come to an end. Christianity and Judaism will cease to exist as independent faiths, as people will recognize Islam as the true path.

The Death of Prophet Isa (AS)

After ruling with justice, Prophet Isa (AS) will pass away naturally and will be buried. Some narrations indicate that he will be laid to rest in Medina, near the grave of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Conclusion

Prophet Isa (AS) holds a central role in Islam. His return in the End Times is a source of hope for Muslims, as he will defeat the Dajjal, establish peace, and restore justice. His mission will mark the final victory of Islam over falsehood.

Muslims should believe in his second coming and be prepared for this great event.

May Allah (SWT) guide us to be among the righteous followers of Prophet Isa (AS), standing firm in faith and justice. Ameen.
